Plymouth Morris Men joined other international folk dancers and musicians from Austria, Sweden, Spain, Italy, France and Latvia as well as local dancers from Hungary.
Plymouth Morris Men are one of only a few English teams to have taken part in the Festival since it started in 1999.
With high humidity levels and temperatures reaching 39C the team found it difficult to perform every day at the Festival. The week long Festival began on Wednesday 19th July and the team danced at different towns and villages in the southern county of Csongrad.
To round off the trip the group also visited Serbia and gave the locals a taste of traditional English folk dancing, as well as being interviewed and photographed for the local press, and interviewed and filmed for the local television, before returning home on Wednesday 26th July.
Andy King, the team’s Foreman, who organised the trip said, “It has been quite a challenge to organise this trip but very enjoyable. I’ve had to deal with cancelled flights, changes to airports and other travel arrangements, deal in 3 different currencies and at the same time interperet e-mails in broken English coming from the Hungarian organiser. But it has been worth it." Plymouth Morris Men are now seasoned travellers, having performed in the Netherlands and France last year. “We love to take the Morris abroad as it is very different to anything they have seen before,” says Andy, “and it is always received with great interest.”
